LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Wednesday dismissed the plea seeking the removal of the photo of Nawaz Sharif from the Ramazan Neghaban ration bag.

Justice Shahid Karim heard the petition filed by a citizen Munir Ahmed. The high court issued notices on the petition and sought a response from the Punjab government.

The petitioner’s lawyer Salma Riaz argued that the state resources could not be used for personal promotion, thus the distribution of flour is against the dignity of the citizens. The petitioner maintained that if pictures have to be published on the bags, the ration must be distributed with personal resources. “The self-respect of citizens is being undermined,” the petition added.

The counsel pleaded to the court to restrain the government from printing images of the PML-N Supremo Mian Nawaz Sharif on ration bags. “The government should be ordered not to hurt the dignity of the citizens by the distribution of flour bags”, a lawyer pleaded.

“The government of Punjab should be ordered to assist citizens by the Benazir income support mechanism at their homes,” the lawyer requested to the high court bench.
