UAE residents have been asked to stay at home as heavy rains flooded streets and caused a couple of roads to collapse.
Only in “cases of extreme necessity” were citizens advised to leave the security of their homes by the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA). The government also recommended that drivers park their cars in “safe, elevated, and distant locations away from areas prone to flooding.”
Schools went online overnight and all government employees were told to work from home Tuesday and Wednesday as the weather bureau warned of unstable weather conditions that will intensify in two waves today.
As drivers struggled to navigate through flooded roadways, numerous vehicles experienced breakdowns. In certain places, massive hailstones broke through car windshields while lightning and thunder erupted through the skies. There have also been reports of power disruptions from several locals.
This is the second stay-at-home alert that the authorities have released in the past two months. Roads leading to valleys and mountains were closed in March due to unpredictable weather, so locals were advised to stay inside.
