ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat said that Saudi Arabia was also involved in regime change operations when Imran Khan’s government was ousted in 2022.
During a talk show interview with journalist Gharidah Farooqi, a senior PTI leader claimed that Saudi Arabia acted as an ally of the United States against the PTI government and its ouster after a no-confidence motion in 2022.
A fresh twist in the regime change controversy came into light when Sher Afzal said the regime change operation was successfully implemented due to the cooperation between the United States and Saudi Arabia. The PTI leader claimed the KSA served as a conduit for the regime change.
Gharida Farooqi questioned Marwat that he was making very serious allegations against the brotherly country Saudi Arabia. PTI leader responded that his accusations are true since KSA implements policies at the whim of the USA.

However, PTI leader Sayed Zulfi Bukhari debunked Sher Afzal Marwat’s allegation about Saudi Arabia’s involvement in the regime change operation.
Taking on X, he said, “Neither Imran Khan nor PTI holds any such opinion about the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. KSA has ALWAYS been & will be our closest brotherly country. They have never failed to help us in any circumstance or situation.”
Even the most recent visit is a testament to that. We have no reason whatsoever to say or believe in any kind of intervention from KSA. We are proud and value our relationship with the Kingdom as the utmost priority, Zulfi Bukhari added.
