ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced key reforms aimed at transforming Pakistan into a leading tourist destination, coinciding with World Tourism Day on September 27.
Highlighting the importance of these changes, the Prime Minister emphasized the significance of tourism in fostering peace and understanding among nations and cultures.
One significant step is the introduction of a tourist-friendly visa policy, allowing tourists from 126 countries to obtain fast-track visas without any fees. This move is expected to greatly contribute to the promotion of tourism and unlock new opportunities for socioeconomic growth in Pakistan.
Pakistan, with its rich natural landscapes and ancient civilizations such as Mehrgarh, Mohenjo-Daro, Harappa, and Gandhara, presents a unique opportunity for tourism development and livelihood creation. The tourism sector holds immense potential to fuel economic growth, generate employment, and promote peace through cultural exchange.
The Prime Minister encouraged young Pakistanis to explore innovative solutions and entrepreneurial ventures that can further develop the industry. The government is actively supporting entrepreneurship within tourism, recognizing its vital role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) due to its strong connections with other industries.
Furthermore, efforts are being made at both federal and provincial levels to promote various forms of tourism, including adventure, religious, heritage, eco, and cultural tourism across all regions of Pakistan. By showcasing Pakistan’s warmth, hospitality, and resilience, the government aims to unlock the full potential of sustainable tourism for a brighter, peaceful future.
