• INTRODUCTION:
St. Helen’s High School and College is the largest educational institution in Dera Ismail Khan that needs no introduction.
St. Helen’s is a mighty educational institution of D I Khan and it is a fact that no institution has been established to compare the educational standards of St Helen’s High School nor will there be an educational institution comparable to this institution in the future. St. Helen’s School is an ideal educational institution for the people of Dera Ismail Khan and there are many reasons why it is an ideal institution.
According to some research, an ideal educational organization has a glorious past, a learning environment, qualified staff, and practical-based learning.
St. Helen is the school that has all of these mentioned qualities, It has a glorious past which is witnessed by every single eye of Dera Ismail Khan, and it has a learning environment, if we talk about the staff so the staff of St. Helen’s High School is extraordinarily intelligent.
Now, First, let’s see the History of St. Helen’s High School

• LOCATION:
It is located in a place that is accessible to the general public despite being in the cantt, that is, there is no post made by the army or the police before coming to the school, where you have to show the cantt pass or identity card, but in terms of security, this area is the whole Dera. It is the safest area of the city
• HISTORY:
St. Helen’s High School & College, commonly known as Father School in D I Khan is a missionary School established in D I Khan in 1955 by Bishop Hatinga under Diocesan Board Rawalpindi, since 1955 this school had achieved many milestones. First of all, It is the first-ever English-Medium School in D I Khan.
The First principal of St. Helen’s High School is FR. Bureen, FR. Bureen served the school from 1955 to 1957, after FR> Bureen the next Principal of the school was FR. Geedes who served until his retirement in 1959, after that FR. Luif became the Principal of St. Helen’s High School from 1959 to 1970.
As the first four Principals of St. Helen’s High School were Fathers so the school was commonly called Father School, from 1970 to 1980 the duty of the Principal of St. Helen’s High School was served by educationist Ghulam Ahmed Chughtai and after the retirement of Chughtai, the St. Helen’s High School, which was at that time one of the greatest educational institutions of D I Khan, rose to its peak.

• ERA OF FR. JOHN KLAVER:
As FR. John Klaver’s tenure began, St. Helen’s School entered a period of its glory that has not ended to this day, one of the famous things about St. Helen’s School is its grand building, but the St. Helen’s building that we see today was not like this when FR. Jan Klaver became the principal of St. Helen’s High School. St. Helen’s was at its educational peak during the time of FR. Jan Klaver and therefore a large and beautiful building was necessary for the school but a huge amount of money was also needed to build a big building, soon the problem of money was also solved. Fr. Jan Klaver collected so many donations from his students and the Diocesan Board of Education, Rawalpindi, under which this school is established also gave funds for the building. According to an alumnus of St. Helen’s High School Mr.Ubaid ur Rahman, a major grant was given by the then Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Lt. General Fazle Haq. Earlier, there used to be an old mud-made building which was just near the gate that stands in front of the Principal office. Then after having built, the classes moved into the newly-built building and the old building was demolished and turned into the play/football ground.
• ERA OF SIR PATRAS BHATTI:
After FR. John Klaver again went to the Netherlands, and Mr. Patras Bhatti (late) became the Principal of St. Helen’s High School, the era of Patras Bhatti is the same as the era of FR. John Klaver. The school has also achieved many milestones during the 21 years of Sir Patras Bhatti.
The St. Helen’s High School made a record in yaer 2000 because St. Helen’s took first 4 positions in the Bannu Board.
Hina Zahoor, came first, Asma Khan bagged second position, Shadab Hassan secured third position while Syed Imran Haider got 4th position.
The position hholders which are Hina Zahoor, Shadab Hassan and Syed Imran Haider are now famous Doctors while Asma Khan unfortunately died some years ago fighting with the deadly disease of Cancer (May her soul rest in peace).
In 2003, St. Helen’s High School became a Girl’s College also with being High School.
• ERA OF SIR JAMEEL GEORGE:
After the end of Sir Patras’ era in 2011, Sir Jameel George became the Principal of st. Helen’s High School.
He had also done many achievements including making the Boys College Section.
There is a long list of the achievements during the current era of Princiapl Sir Jameel George.
His achievements included the attainment of discipline in school.
Sir Jameel George proved the quote ”To came first is easier then to remain fist” correct as the St. Helen is on top as well as the best institution of D I Khan.
The Principal Sir also increased the salaries of staff in order to improve the lifestyle of staff. The Seminars were also held on fdifferent topcs. The one of the greatest achievement of Sir Jameel George is that, he made the Boys College. During the first period of every day, Sir Jameel George himself take a round of classes in order to review the studies of students while some new teachers who are very much talented are also included in the staff.
Now the question is Why St. Helen’s High School is an ideal educational institute for the people of D I Khan?
• ST. HELEN’S HIGH SCHOOL, AS AN IDEAL INSTITUTION
There are not 1 reason or 2 reasons or 10 reasons but more than a thousand reasons why St. Helen’s High School is an ideal educational institute for the people of Dera Ismail Khan, I am saying this not because I am a Helenian but I am saying this because of a thousand facts.
St. Helen’s High School has a glorious past, let me give an example, the current Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Parliamentary leader of Pakistan Peoples Party in KP Assembly, Ahmed Karim Khan Kundi, Ex-Tehsil Nazim Daraban Kalan, Ex-President District Bar Council, and well-known politician and social activist, Sardar Qaizar Khan Miankhel, Member of National Assembly (MNA) and Ex-Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Provincial Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Sardar Faisal Amin Khan Gandapur, City Mayor Tehsil Dera Ismail Khan, Capt (retd) Sardar Umar Amin Khan Gandapur and Chairman of Soil Department in University of Agriculture (UAD), D I Khan, Prof. Dr. Qudrat Ullah were all ex -helenians.
I gave this example because I want to convey a message, that St. Helen’s High School not only provides quality education but also moulds its students and it creates the quality of leadership in its students due to which the alumni of St. Helen’s High School were also leading the country and also on other higher posts.
2.
St. Helen’s High School is the only school in Dera Ismail Khan which has taken a position in every educational Board since 1955.
When there was only one board in the province i.e. Peshawar Board then St. Helen’s position was still in it, then when Bannu Board was formed. Even St. Helen’s positions were prominent and now that in Dera Board, St. Helen’s did not break his tradition of holding positions.
Which means that St. Helen’s didn’t buy positions because it’s positions were also prominent during the era of Bannu and Peshawar Boards.
Another huge achievement of St. Helen’s High School is that a student belonging to Hindu Minority named Ang Raj Karan son of Ashok Kumar bagged 6th position in Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Dera Ismail Khan some few years ago and the same student got admission in Khyber Medical College (KMU) on open merit leaving the minority seat for another deserving student.

3.
The staff at St. Helen’s is exceptionally competent and excellent staff, a staff on which I could write several books. The interesting fact about the staff of St. Helen’s High School is that the teacher will remain loyal to the institute from appointment till retirement such great examples are Miss Taj who served the school for about 42 years and retired when I came in Class 3 about 7 years ago, Miss Shakeela, Miss Seema, Miss Zaitoon, Sir Syed Muhammad Baran Shah (late) and many more. Sir Baran Shah served the school for more than 20 years and he taught the Pakistan Studies and English Subjects. The student’s of Sir Muhammad Baran Shah (late), always praised him when I talk to them about him, they said that he is a man with humble and kind personality, he is excelled in knwoledge ans master of his subjects.
Sir Tashfeen William is also included in the list of ex-teachers of St. Helen’s High School who served the school for more than 20 years, he taught in Class 6, the subject math. He is a man with friendly personality but with strcit principles and he never compromise on his principles. There are many teachers like Sir Sattar Shah who is serving the school since 1990, Sir Javed who is serving the school for more than 25 years, Miss Parveen who is serving for more than 30 years, Miss Rafia who is also also serving the school for about 30 years, Miss Nusrat who taught me in Class Prep and maybe also in 1, Miss Farah Deeba, Miss Shakeela and Miss Seema who retired after serving more than 30 years.
To all the senior and junior teachers who have taught me from Prep to Class 10, I am extremely grateful to all of you, I would not be here today if I had not been your student.
Now, I will talk about some individual teachers from which I studied and senior teachers who are also like the pillars of the school and the face of the school.
Firstly, my dear Sir Syed Muhammad Abdul Sattar Shah, Sattar Shah Sir has been serving this institute since 1990, He has an absolutely amazing personality, He teaches us Biology, the way he taught us I think there is no teacher in the entire D I Khan who can teach us biology like Sir Sattar Shah. He is not just a teacher, he is a mentor, a friend and many more. He has a humble, kind and friendly personality and a man with strict principles. He never compromised on his principles, I never see him compromising on his principles, He is also true of his words which makes him a best man.
Now, come on Sir Naveed who teaches us Urdu and Islamiat, I think he is more than a teacher for us, he is just like our best friend, we can share anything with including the syllabus, our issues, and even our mental issue, he will sort out our issues and motivate a person for studies in such way that is unbelievable. He has also a humble, kind and friendly personality. He is also a member of Discipline Comitee of School and he is a man who perfectly know that how to tackle any students and that’s why he is also a reason of discipline in school.
Now, Sir Amir Nawaz Laghari who teaches us Pakistan Studies and I can safely say that there is no one who can teach Pakistan Studies like Sir Laghari in D I Khan, he not even explains the topic deeply but also tells us the history and background of the respective topic.
Then I will talk about Sir Majeed, He teaches us Physics in Class 10, I swear that when the topic he taught using the class is over, we realize that we have also remembered the topic, he explains even a tiny thing about any topic he is teaching. He teaches us in an amazing way that we memorize the entire topic during the class. Sir Majeed is ex-Coordinator of the school and believe me, I did not see sucha a strict displinarian in my life.
Now, Sir Javed, Sir Javed teaches us math and he every time emphasizes conceptual learning, he always advises us to strengthen our concepts if we want success in the future, and his method of teaching is totally different from other teachers.
Now, Sir Saif-ur-Rehman, who teaches us Chemistry, Sir Saif’s method of teaching is also different, he writes every single word, definition, and reaction of a topic on the whiteboard in order to explain the topic to students in a more convenient way. He is also our new discipline oncharge and he performs his duty woth great responsibility.
Now, Sir Zeeshan, who is new in School and teaches us English, he is a good teacher and also a strict disciplinarian in terms of studies.
Now, Sir Saeed, He taught us Physics in Class 9th and believe me, he is a great man, he is very friendly to the students but also a strict teacher during study time.
Now. Sir Arif, teaches us Mathematics in Class 9, he is also a great man, very friendly when we do work on time but very strict when we can’t do it which is a great quality of his personality. Sir Arif is now our discipline in-charge and literally he is doing his duty with great hardwork. As he is a strict disciplinarian, he perofrms hi duty with great responsibility and he keep his eyes on every matter. That’s why there is no violation of any discipline in our school.
Now, Sir Amir Khan, who is now teaching at Government School but taught us in Class 9 and for about three months in Class 10, he is also an absolutely amazing man, I have many memories with him, and one reason for my strong English is also Sir Amir Khan.
Now, Sir Abdul Hye is also a Chemistry teacher but he teaches the College level and girls of Class 10, He is also a very good man, apart from studies he also emphasizes the students to become independent by doing something digital and modern.
Now, Sir Khalid, he is also new in School and teaches a new subject Mutala Quran, He is also a great man, when he explains something, he goes down even deep into the topic that students who are not interested in the topic start taking interest in that topic.
Now Sir Zameer Alam, He taught us English in Class 8 and he is also an amazing teacher, he taught us those tricks in English which not only enhance our English but are very beneficial for us.
Now Sir Anss, He is also a great personality, I I have not studied from him because he is recently included in the teaching staff from account office staff, but overall he is a friendly person with best behaviour, he is not like only a teacher but also like a friend.
Now Sir Amir Shehzad, He taught us Physics Class 8 and his method of teaching was amazing, he taught us in such a way that we immediately learnt the topic.
Now, Sir Munir, He is P.E.T or our school and I swear that every child in the school loves him because he is such a nice person.
Now, Sir Hanif, He is also a senior P.E.T of our school, He is a great gentleman with friendly behaviour but a very strict disciplinarian in terms of school code of conduct.
Now I will talk about some Senior Female Teachers from which I have not studied but I have listened about them.
First, Miss Atiqa, She is a great English Teacher at our school, I have not studied from her but the whole school knew that How competent Miss Atiq is, whenever a paper of English was made by Miss Atiqa, it was different and difficult paper due to which I easily solved the Board Paper because I had already attempted the paper made by Miss Atiqa, the discipline in Girl’s side is only possible due to the hard work of Miss Atiqa
Now, Miss Saba, She is also a Biology teacher for Girl’s school and college side and she is also a senior teacher and a great teacher.
Then, Miss Shaista, who teaches Urdu at Girl’s side, My experience with Miss Shaista is exactly the same as Miss Atiqa’s because She also makes the paper in Urdu, which to solve is totally a difficult task, As I also attempted her papers, I can safely say that She is also an amazing teacher.
Now, Miss Lubna, She is Girl’s P.E.T, She only single handedly and in an exceptional manner maintains the discipline in the Girl’s side, the minor children also love her because her behaviour is very friendly towards them.
The other teachers from which I studied from Class Prep to Class 10, some of them are now retired, I cannot write for you due to shortage of time and I say very much sorry for that but the teachers
who taught me, I Thank You All.
4.
Huge and Separate Playgrounds for boys and girls were also one of the unique qualities of St. Helen’s High School as there is no private school in D I Khan that provides that type of huge playgrounds for the refreshment of students in free classes.

5.
The Cafeteria was established in St. Helen’s High School & College for students from where they can buy soem eatables and also sitting arrangements were made for the students so that they can easily enjoy.

6.
Extra-Curricular Activities which include Poster Competitions, Speech Competitions, etc were held annually in St. Helen’s High School through which the students show their hidden talent, which is very essential for the character-building and grooming of a student.

7.
Sports Week and Annual Sports Gala were held in which students show their interest in sports which is very essential for the health of students as they come out from their tough schedule of study for some moments of joy.
8.
The Trips for the students are also one of the best qualities of St. Helen’s High School as I think it is the only school that held tours to places like Murree Hill Station, Kala Bagh, Chashma, etc.
9.
St. Helen’s High School provides a studious environment to students, including ventilated classrooms and a free means a beautiful environment because of plantation which leaves a great impact on a student’s mind.

CONCLUSION
The Conclusion from the above discussion is that St. Helen’s High School is an ideal education institute for the people and students of D I Khan from all aspects.
