Cruz Beckham caused a social media frenzy on Wednesday when he teased a collaboration with the iconic Spice Girls – only for fans to realize it was an April Fools’ prank.
The 21-year-old singer posted a photo merging himself and his band, The Breakers, with the Spice Girls, styled to look like album artwork. He captioned the image: “It’s finally happening!!! We have delayed the release of Waste Your Pain slightly, as the girls have now agreed to be a part of this song @spicegirls.”
Even his mother, Victoria Beckham – better known as Posh Spice – joined the joke, commenting, “I’m warming up!” Fans flooded the post with excited reactions, but the playful ruse soon became clear, with Cruz’s girlfriend Jackie Apostel reacting with laughing-crying emojis.
Earlier this week, Cruz announced he and The Breakers are heading on a North American tour. Fresh off a string of UK gigs promoting his debut album, he revealed the second leg of the For Your Love tour, which will kick off in Washington D.C. on July 28, before stopping in Brooklyn, Toronto, Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
In a video shared on Instagram, Cruz addressed fans directly. “Hello fellow Breakers. We are very happy and proud to announce the second leg of the For Your Love tour. We’re coming to America and Canada. We’re excited to see you there, so get your tickets now,” he said.
