Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank stood by his defender Micky van de Ven after Liverpool manager Arne Slot said the player was reckless with his challenge on Alexander Isak that caused the Liverpool striker to suffer a broken leg.<\/strong><\/p>\nIsak and Van de Ven have sorted it out between themselves after the Sweden forward was forced off during Saturday\u2019s Premier League clash, Frank added.<\/p>\n
Slot said that Van de Ven\u2019s challenge on Isak, made as the Sweden forward scored the first goal in Liverpool\u2019s 2-1 win, would have caused serious injury 10 out of 10 times.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously, I\u2019m disagreeing\u2026 we\u2019re talking about a defender that will do everything to avoid (conceding) the goal. It\u2019s a transition so he is sprinting back in. There\u2019s a ball slid down in the side and he does everything he can to block that,\u201d Frank told reporters on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, Isak has planted his foot straight there which makes it look worse than it is\u2026 put it this way, if my defender doesn\u2019t do that, I don\u2019t think they are true defenders. I don\u2019t see that at all. I think reckless challenges, normally, you haven\u2019t seen any from Micky.<\/p>\n
\u201cI also know the two players have sorted it out, so that\u2019s a good sign.\u201d<\/p>\n
Saturday\u2019s loss left Spurs 14th in the table, with one win in their last eight league matches ahead of Sunday\u2019s visit to eighth-placed Crystal Palace, who are four points above Frank\u2019s team.<\/p>\n
Frank credited manager Oliver Glasner, who led Palace to their first FA Cup triumph this year, for the strong start to their league campaign after a 12th-place finish last season.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think Oliver\u2019s done a top job at Palace. Very impressive. Clear identity of the team. Defend low, very compact and difficult to break down and very good on the counters,\u201d Frank said. \u201cThey\u2019re one of the best on corners and have added long throws.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
