High-speed diesel now costs Rs389.27 per litre compared with its previous price of Rs396.96. The new rates took effect on October 20, 2026.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revised the ex-depot prices under the government’s fuel-pricing framework. The latest adjustment reflects changes in international petroleum market indicators, including benchmark prices and related costs.

The reduction in diesel prices is particularly relevant for Pakistan’s transport and agricultural sectors. High-speed diesel powers a large share of heavy vehicles, freight transport and agricultural machinery. Lower fuel costs may ease some operating expenses for businesses moving goods across the country and farmers relying on diesel-powered equipment.

However, the extent to which the reduction benefits consumers will depend on how transporters, suppliers and other businesses respond. A lower diesel price does not automatically mean that freight charges, public transport fares or retail prices will decline immediately.

Petrol users will also receive some relief. Motorcyclists, car owners and other private vehicle users will pay less per litre under the revised rate, although the overall saving will depend on the quantity purchased and individual fuel consumption.

The adjustment comes as Pakistan operates under a daily petroleum pricing mechanism. Under this arrangement, OGRA can announce revised ex-depot prices in response to movements in international markets, allowing domestic rates to change more frequently than under the previous review system.

The new framework means fuel prices can move in either direction as global market conditions change. Consumers and businesses may therefore continue to face fluctuations in operating and household transport costs.

For now, the October 20 revision lowers both major fuel prices, with diesel recording the larger per-litre reduction. Its broader economic impact will depend on subsequent market movements and whether lower fuel expenses are passed on through the supply chain.

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has reduced petrol prices by Rs5.16 per litre and high-speed diesel rates by Rs7.69, providing some relief to motorists, transport operators and other fuel consumers across Pakistan.
