ISLAMABAD: Amidst the rising inflation, the Government of Pakistan increased the electricity prices by Rs 3.25 per unit on Saturday.
The decision came a day after a nominal decrease in petrol prices last night by the finance ministry after the direction of Prime Minister Shehaz Sharif to decrease the petrol prices by Rs 15 per litre.
According to theNational Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the price of electricity has been increased by Rs3.25 per unit.
Nepra issued a notification in this regard saying that the increase in the tariff is done on the request to increase the price of electricity which was made by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) in the periodic adjustment for the 3rd Quarter of FY 2023-24.
It is important to mention that NEPRA had reserved its decision on May 30 on the request to increase the price of electricity by Rs3.49 per unit which was made by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) in the April fuel adjustment.

“The Decision is being sent to the Federal Government for intimation and action, if any, by the Federal Government under Proviso (ii) of Section 3 1(7) of NEPRA Act, before its notification by NEPRA pursuant to the said Proviso of Section 31(7) of NEPRA Act, 199,” it added.
According to the details, the increase in electricity prices will burden the consumers by 46 billion rupees.The increase in electricity prices will be effective for June, July, and August.
