ISLAMABAD: Internet personality Sahil Adeem’s conversation with a participant on the Samaa Digital show Makalma with Khalilur Rehman Qamarwent viral on social media. Adeem was invited along with writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar to discuss women’s rights and human rights.
Sahil Adeem sparked outrage on social media after making derogatory comments about women, saying that 95 percent of the women in Pakistan were ignorant.
“You will find 25 men out of 100 illiterate, fifty men would be 50-50 [neither educated nor illiterate], and 25 would be educated. And if you take a sample of 100 women, 95 out of them will be ignorant not knowing anything. This is reality,” he said.
Adeem was responding to a query related to mobilizing mosques for women’s rights. He responded, “These women have awareness about dance, cooking, and makeup but they have no awareness of Islam and wondered how mosques would mobilize them.”
Conversation between Sahil Adeem and Azba Abdullah
During the Q&A session, one of the participants asked Sahil Adeem to apologize for his anti-women comments, a clip of which went viral on social media.
Despite apologizing or clarifying his statement, Sahil Adeem went on asking the participant the meaning of Taghut. “Today, you got to know about taghut, which is the biggest sin in Islam,” he said.
The girl named Azba Abdullah reminded him that the topic of discussion was women’s rights, not the sins in Islam.
In response, he said that the participant asked him to apologize for his choice of words, Adeem claimed that it was bound in Islam to call an ignorant person ignorant. He reiterated his claims and advised her to take a sample and conduct the test.
“I ask for forgiveness from him because my daughter [while referring to the woman who asked the question] is ignorant. This is my fault that my daughter is ignorant,” he said and the woman countered that he was changing the topic.
