Reports shared on social media said that the man’s body was dragged and set on fire. Police reportedly arrested and detained a man, but the mob stormed the police station, forcibly dragged him out and beat him with sticks.
In horrifying clips, several people were seen injured while a police station in Madin was torched during the protests. According to initial reports, there was a minor clash between the protestors and the police in Swat, where one person was injured in police firing.
Videos of the protests and the burning of the police station are being shared on social media, with police trying unsuccessfully to stop the large number of protesters.
Such incidents of vigilante violence are often related to blasphemy charges and are widely reported. Many accused of blasphemy have been attacked, sometimes fatally, by mobs before being tried in court.
Such actions are widely condemned in Pakistan for ignoring the principles of human rights and justice.
