ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to refund the additional charges collected from electricity consumers, which is likely to reduce the cost per unit by 30 paisas for a month.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has applied for a monthly fuel price adjustment for February. Nepra will hear the application tomorrow.
6.495 billion units of electricity were generated in February. 6.666 billion units were supplied to power companies. The cost of electricity per unit was Rs 1.8.22. The reference cost for February was fixed at Rs. 8.52 per unit
In February, 27.12 percent of electricity was generated from hydro, 15.02 percent from local coal and 1.56 percent from imported coal. 10.32 percent from gas, 14.11 percent from imported LNG, and 26.59 percent from nuclear fuel.
This government decision may provide some relief to electricity consumers through a reduction in their monthly bills. The decision of NEPRA on the CPPA’s request will determine the final outcome.
