LAHORE: The Punjab Board Committee of Chairman has officially approved a 10-point grading system for matriculation and intermediate examinations.
This new system will assess students’ performance based on grades and GPA instead of numerical marks, aiming to shift the focus from competition for marks to enhancing academic performance.
Under this system, the term “Unsatisfactory” will replace “Fail,” and the passing percentage will increase from 33% to 40%. The system will be introduced in phases, starting with students in classes 9 and 11, who will receive grades instead of marks from 2026. The second phase will extend the system to classes 10 and 12 from 2027.
The change aims to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of students’ performance, with a focus on improving academic achievement.
By introducing a grading system, the board hopes to reduce the emphasis on numerical scores and promote a more holistic approach to education.
