LAHORE: On the instructions of the Lahore High Court, the Punjab Environment Department has imposed a complete ban on washing cars at home and violators will face a fine of Rs 10,000 and legal action.
Deputy Director Environment Ali Ijaz issued an awareness notice to the residents of Lahore.
The awareness notice also appealed to the citizens to conserve water. According to the text of the awareness notice, in view of the severe shortage of water, an immediate ban has been imposed on washing cars with clean tap water. Violators of the ban will be fined Rs 10,000 and legal action will be taken. The awareness notice further states that the aim of the ban is to conserve water for human needs, cooking and sanitation. Citizens are requested to use alternative methods for washing cars.
People are advised to use recycled water, visit car wash centers that recycle water, and use waterless cleaning products.
In the awareness notice, Deputy Director Ali Ijaz has said that the Environment Department appeals to all domestic consumers for full cooperation, to conserve water, so that this precious resource can be protected.
The Environment Department’s performance report will be presented in the Lahore High Court on April 11.
