ISLAMABAD: Over 13,000 videos promoting extremism and separatist agendas have been taken down by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in a massive Crackdown against individuals and groups running the campaigns on social media platforms, according to a PTA spokesperson.
“We have blocked over 3,900 TikTok URLs and over 13,000 videos showing material against the security agencies and the URLs being associated with banned outfits,” said the spokesperson.
The Authority has approached to all the major social media platforms, asking them to take conclusive measure aginst those involved in the spread of fake news and agendas following the Jaffar Express tragedy.
Over 1,340 URLs are being reported to these social media platforms involved in the spread of anti-state propaganda and fake news in the Jaffar Express attack.
Furthermore, the PTA has identified various social media accounts spreading content related to banned outfits, especially the Baloch Liberation Army. The PTA actively monitored anti-state content on social media from March 11 to March 28.
Security agencies’ concerns continue to drive the process of finding and banning such information. So far, almost 113,000 anti-state URLs have been blacklisted.
The PTA highlighted that it will not tolerate the dissemination of terrorist narratives on social media, and that social media platforms will not be utilized against the state.
