LONDON: The cherished dark chocolate Toblerone is soon to become rich people dream, as after nearly 60 years the triangular chocolate bar – with the addition of almond and honey – will no longer be available in the UK.
The chocolate bar will soon accompany other discontinued chocolates like Mars delight and Cadbury Dream at the stores lowest counters.
This decision is already causing disappointment amongst clients. The announcement comes just prior to the latest price point prior to Easter bank holiday weekend.
By Friday afternoon, dark chocolate Toblerone was already sold out on the Waitrose website before social media began prompting others to stockpile them.
And so far, this is only the second mark in Toblerone news. Previously in 2023 Mondelēz changed all packaging of the chocolate Toblerone using the branding of the Matterhorn and moving the operations outside of Switzerland factories.
Toblerone dark chocolate is not the first or last beloved chocolate bar to die on make room for the new flavors. Last year Nestlé burnt everyone by killing off the Breakaway bars due to market decline, whilst Milky Way Crispy Rolls were also discontinued as of 2022 but had just come back.
Meanwhile, “Dubai chocolate” is the latest craze with companies like Lindor and Lidl copying some definition of it.
