KARACHI: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a national alert due to an impending heatwave expected to affect the country from today until April 27.
Per the heatwave alert advisory, temperatures are expected to rise significantly across Pakistan, with Balochistan and Sindh expected to exceed 40°C.
Dry spells are also expected across most of the country, with Islamabad and Lahore expecting temperatures to exceed 35°C. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and the Azad Jammu and Kashmir regions, will also experience hot and dry conditions.
Some respite is predicted for at least some areas, with expected light rain and partly cloudy conditions in some districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, such as Peshawar, Swat, Charsadda, and Abbottabad. Some showers are also predicted in the regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
The NDMA has urged local administrations to remain vigilant and implement preventive measures in vulnerable and care areas.
The public is advised to hydrate as much as possible, avoid outdoor activities during peak daylight hours, and take special care of children, older friends, and those with health challenges to mitigate risk from the effects of the heat wave.
