HARIPUR: A wild leopard recently ventured into the residential area of Chaskalan, a hilly village in Khanpur, Haripur, attacking two homes and killing several valuable goats belonging to poor farmers.
The leopard fled into the forest after locals raised an alarm, but not before attempting to attack a man named Niaz Ahmed, who narrowly escaped due to the villagers’ timely shouting.
The incident has left the community in fear, with locals expressing frustration over the lack of action from the Wildlife Department to address the growing threat posed by wild animals.
This recent attack follows a previous incident where a wild tiger attacked and injured a father and son, killing dozens of livestock in the process. Locals say they are living in constant fear due to the increasing presence of wild animals like leopards, tigers, and bears in their area.
They attribute this to food shortages in the forests, which are driving these animals to venture into nearby villages in search of prey. The villagers have demanded urgent action from the authorities, warning that a lack of preventive measures could lead to human casualties. They are seeking relief for those affected and measures to control the growing threat posed by these wild animals.
