WASHINGTON: In the wake of an incident in Pahalgam on April 22 that resulted in multiple fatalities, the United States has reiterated its “do not travel” advisory for the Jammu and Kashmir region in India.
According to local media, several Indian cities have been put on high alert following the attack, with heightened security measures in place. In response, the US State Department has urged US citizens to avoid travel to Jammu and Kashmir, citing the continued risk of terrorism and civil unrest, particularly in areas along the Line of Control (LoC) that separates India and Pakistan.
The advisory also emphasizes that US government officials are prohibited from traveling to the region due to security concerns. Popular tourist destinations in the Kashmir Valley, such as Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam, are considered high-risk areas.
Additionally, the US State Department noted that the Indian government imposes restrictions on foreign tourists seeking access to certain areas near the LoC. Travelers are encouraged to consult the official US Travel Advisory website for the latest guidance and safety information.
