NEW DELHI: In a powerful and emotional video that has gone viral, a serving Indian military soldier has publicly criticized the Modi government, claiming soldiers are being humiliated rather than honored for their service.
Speaking on the program *India Watch*, the officer accused the government of neglect, unpaid salaries, and lack of basic welfare for military personnel and their families.
“We didn’t go to Pakistan to drink tea, we went under responsibility,” the army personnel said, expressing deep anguish. “Today, my child asks me, ‘Is my father a terrorist?’ Mr. Modi, you’re not married — do you know what the pain of a family is?”
He accused the government of using soldiers for political gain while ignoring their real needs. “We are begging for life, for rent”.
“If you want to rent, go ask Pakistan — don’t defame us. If this situation continues, the military will take over the government. We have become a spectacle,” the soldier said.
The service man claimed salaries had not been paid for three months and said those who speak out are jailed. “This is not independent India anymore. Modi has enslaved us.” He also lamented the failure of the justice system, calling it “a dream” for ordinary soldiers.
The video has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many demanding immediate action for the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families. Analysts suggest growing frustration within the ranks could spell deeper challenges for the Modi administration.
