
PESHAWAR: Another case of mpox has been detected by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department, taking the total number of cases to eight this year, according to media reports.
This is the second case detected from the Kyber district of KPK. Previously, a resident of the same district was diagnosed with mpox from the United Arab Emirates.
The diagnosed is 31, male, from Kyber district, was screened at Bacha Khan International Airport where he was leaving for Dubai. The authorities suspected him and obtained his sample.
He was isolated as soon as his test was positive, the doctors confirmed.
His sample was sent to the Public Health Reference Laboratory at Khyber Medical University (KMU), where the presence of mpox virus was confirmed.
After the patient was positive, the health department immediately directed the district health officer (DHO) of Khyber for contact tracing, and the diagnosed has been isolated to prevent further spread of the Virus.
Doctors said that the health department was closely monitoring the situation.
The Health Department has urged people to remain cautious and report any suspected individuals to the relevant authorities.
Health experts said that positive cases needed to be isolated in homes or hospitals, where they should stay away from other people.
The province has recorded 17 mpox cases so far, including eight in 2025, seven in 2024, and two in 2023. Most of the patients had arrived either from the United Arab Emirates or the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where the disease was endemic.
