LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced the schedule of summer vacations for schools across the province amid rising temperatures.
According to the details, the holidays will begin from June 1, but the School Education Secretary Khalid Nazir Wattoo indicated that the holidays could begin a week earlier, if temperatures continue to rise.
Wattoo said that the step prioritises the health of students, teachers, and parents, as intense heat can severely impact educational activities.
Earlier today, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted hot and dry weather with rising temperatures above normal in most parts of the country, including Punjab.
“Day temperatures are likely to remain 05 to 07°C above normal in the southern half (Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan) from 26th April to 01st May,” the Met Office said.
Amid the rising temperature, the Punjab govt has urged to ensure uninterrupted access to clean drinking water in schools and colleges, prohibit outdoor activities, and instruct students to wear light, loose-fitting clothing.
Additionally, the PDMA has called for improved classroom ventilation, functioning fans and cooling systems, and the establishment of first-aid counters staffed with heatwave-trained personnel.
