Seema Haider directed to leave India as probe continues

NEW DELHI: Seema Haider, who had travelled from Pakistan to India to marry her partner and be with her children, has been ordered to leave the country within three days. The decision comes in the wake of India’s recent crackdown on foreign nationals, particularly after the Pahalgam incident, which has intensified crackdowns on Pakistani nationals in India.
According to India Today, the Indian government has ordered all Pakistani nationals to leave the country by the end of April in response to the Pahalgam attack. Seema, who currently lives in Greater Noida, left her husband in Pakistan and moved to India with her children after marrying Indian national Sachin Meena. She recently gave birth to a daughter, Indian Meena.
Despite the deportation order, Seema’s lawyer AP Singh is optimistic. He argues that the government’s directive should not apply to her as she is no longer a Pakistani citizen. Singh stresses that her marriage to Sachin Meena links her citizenship to India, making the government order irrelevant to her case.
Singh clarified that the government order only affects those who still hold Pakistani citizenship. He also pointed out that Seema’s case is unique, as it is currently under investigation by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). Moreover, Singh has filed a petition with the President of India on her behalf.
Seema first gained national attention in 2023 when she left Karachi with her four children and reached India via Nepal to meet Sachin, whom she met online in 2019. After converting to Hinduism and marrying Sachin, Seema started a new life in Greater Noida. However, its existence is now in jeopardy due to the Indian government’s tough stance on Pakistani nationals following the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 people, mostly Indian tourists.
Although Seema remains on bail, she has complied with all the conditions set by the Ghewar court, including the condition of not staying with her in-laws in Rabupura, Greater Noida.
