
FAISALABAD: The Punjab police have arrested the main suspect in the recent incident of the alleged gang-rape of a woman in front of her husband on the Faisalabad-Multan motorway.
According to police, the suspect, identified as Ali Sher, was apprehended within hours of the incident. Three other suspects involved in the horrific crime have already been detained by the police.
Police said that the victim’s medical examination had been conducted, and geo-fencing of the crime scene was also completed.
The law enforcers said that further investigations were underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred on March 25, 2025, near Motorway Bridge in Chak No 62 JB Channan, when armed men intercepted a couple traveling on a motorcycle and held them at gunpoint.
Afterward, they looted Rs800 in cash, a mobile phone, and the woman’s identity card and tied the husband, Adnan, in an adjacent sugarcane field.
The attackers then took the woman to the same field and gang-raped her before fleeing the scene.
A case was registered under robbery and sexual assault charges at Faisalabad’s Sandal Bar police station on the complaint of the victim’s husband.
The victim’s medical examination was done, and DNA samples were sent for forensic analysis after the crime was reported.
It must be noted that a similar incident occurred in August 2024; two armed robbers allegedly assaulted a married woman in Faisalabad’s Chak No. 34 JB, located in Sandal Bar, after looting cash and mobile phones from her husband.
