
QUETTA: The provincial capital and surrounding areas felt strong earthquake tremors on Monday afternoon, according to media reports.
The quake caused panic among the citizens, leaving their homes and workplaces; however, no damage or casualties were reported.
According to the National Seismological Centre, the earthquake had a Richter scale magnitude of 4.9. The shocks struck at a depth of 21 kilometers, with the epicenter about 125 km northwest of Quetta.
Emergency response agencies were alerted, however, there were no immediate reports of structural damage or casualties. “So far, there has been no report of any loss of life or damage to infrastructure, but we are closely monitoring the situation,” said a representative for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority.
The authorities have urged the public to remain calm and to report any emergencies via the designated helpline. Rescue teams and local administration officials have been mobilised to assess any potential impact in far-flung areas.
