Lahore, known for its bustling streets and vibrant traffic, has taken a significant step towards modernizing administrative processes with the launch of an online driving test service. The initiative, introduced at the e-Khidmat Markaz in Arfa Software Technology Park (ASTP), aims to streamline the process of acquiring driving licenses in the capital city.

In collaboration with the Punjab Traffic Police and the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), this digital drive seeks to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of driving license services across the province. The online driving test service, launched at the e-Khidmat Centre ASTP, marks the beginning of a comprehensive strategy to extend this facility to all e-Khidmat Marakiz throughout Punjab.

The recent move builds upon previous efforts by the interim government of Punjab to simplify the licensing process, allowing citizens to renew their permits conveniently from home. Additionally, the Lahore Traffic Police has expressed optimism regarding the potential reduction in overcrowding at Facilitation Centres by up to 90% through these online conveniences.

In another development aimed at embracing digitalization, the provincial authorities have formalized increased fees for obtaining driving licenses. Learner’s permits for cars and motorcycles are now available at a fee of Rs. 500, valid for a period of up to five years.

Furthermore, to facilitate the application process, the traffic police have launched an online registration service accessible through the Punjab Police app or at any of the 737 police stations and Khidmat Marakiz across Punjab.

Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi led the launch of this online facility, emphasizing the government’s commitment to simplifying and streamlining the licensing process amidst a surge in applications.
