Punjab introduces Arms License management online system


LAHORE: Mohsin Naqvi, the interim chief minister of Punjab, has introduced “the Punjab arms license management system.” According to the facts, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Punjab Interior Ministry came to an agreement about the granting of online weapons licenses. Online license issuance and renewal for firearms will be made possible via the new portal, which also allows license transfers into the name of another person.

According to Mohsin Naqvi, this kind of action will stop corruption in the licensing of armaments. Prior to this, Maqbool Baqar, the interim chief minister of Sindh, banned the province’s ability to issue weapons permits. The Secretary of Interior published a notice about the directive of chief minister in interim Sindh Maqbool Baqar. The notice said that the interior ministry and district commissioner offices would no longer be able to grant licenses for the possession of firearms.

It is relevant to note that on January 20, the Pakistan Supreme Court (SC) sent letters to the Attorney General and the Advocate General, requesting a report within a month from the provincial interior secretaries and IGs regarding the issuance of forbidden weapons in a case involving stolen weapons.

The apex court acknowledged the written order at the accused’s bail hearing in an arms theft case. It was revealed that a forbidden license had been issued at the case hearing.
