ISLAMABAD: Days before the upcoming general elections, Pakistan’s outgoing government has announced a significant decision to provide gas connections to over 100 housing societies across the country.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, the government has decided to reopen gas connections for domestic consumers, prioritizing the provision of connections to these housing societies.

Basic groundwork for this initiative has been completed, and the government is preparing to officially announce the program in an upcoming ceremony.

In the initial phase, housing societies will be supplied gas at a fixed rate of Rs 3600, in contrast to the maximum rate of Rs 4000 charged to domestic consumers.

Amid shortages of natural gas, the interim government has been issuing new connections by combining natural gas and RLNG (Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas).

This move comes in response to instructions from the Special Investment Facilitation Council, Petroleum Ministry, and Sui Northern Gas Company, which have been briefed on the proposed plan.

The decision to provide gas connections to new housing societies is expected to alleviate the burden on hundreds of thousands of residents who currently rely on LPG cylinders for cooking and other purposes.
