Karachi: Sui Southern Gas Company has announced the lifting of the ban on new gas connections, bringing relief to the masses in southern Pakistan, particularly in Sindh and Balochistan. As the primary gas transmission and distribution company in the region, this decision will benefit cities like Karachi, Larkana, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Quetta, and Nawabshah.
Initially, the focus will be on providing new gas connections to private housing societies, with plans to extend this service to other customers in subsequent phases. This move follows a similar decision by Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) to resume new gas connection installations last month.
Under the new policy, gas connections based on regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) will be provided to privately developed housing schemes where the RLNG network has been established and operationalized, with all costs recovered from the developers. This policy extends to new phases or extensions of existing housing societies that operate on an RLNG basis according to the guidelines of the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

It’s important to note that RLNG connections will be prioritized for housing societies that have not yet received system gas connections. Additionally, the moratorium on system gas domestic connections will remain in place, ensuring that no processing of such connections takes place at this time.
