Gandapur wrote a letter to the federal government asking to replace the current chief secretary with Shahab Ali Shah.

In the letter, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recommended the appointment of Shahab Ali Shah as Chief Secretary and said that Nadeem Aslam’s services as Chief Secretary should be withdrawn and Grade 21 Shahab Ali Shah should be appointed Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Contrary to tradition, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has sent only one name rather than a panel of three, even though the prime minister has the authority to designate one of the three officers as chief secretary.

It should be noted that the approval of the Prime Minister is mandatory for the appointment of the Chief Secretary of provinces.

The current Chief Secretary, Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, was appointed under the caretaker government, whereas Shahab Ali Shah served as additional chief secretary in the PTI government.
