In a shock to inflation-hit Pakistanis during the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) announced a significant increase in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
The country of nearly 240 million is suffering a significant gas shortage for energy demands, and LPG is being used as a bridge fuel, but the large Ramadan rise exacerbates the problem.

In a recent statement, the price of Liquified Petroleum Gas LPG was increased by Rs30 per kg.
The official rate of LPG is Rs257 per kg, but it is marketed at Rs350 per kg in Lahore and other metropolises, and in mountainous areas, rates can reach Rs400 per kg.
Irfan Khokhar, Chairman of the LPG Association, criticized the regulatory body’s decision, stating that OGRA has yet to publish an official statement regarding the surge. He attributed price increases to the so-called nexus of LPG quota holders and importers.
