RAWALPINDI: In a saddening turn, a 60-year-old man, who had been incarcerated in Adiala Jail for three years on charges of injuring two civilians, passed away today.

Syed Akhtar, the accused, had been represented by his lawyer Shahbaz Rajput, who tirelessly advocated for his client’s release on bail due to medical reasons. Despite their efforts, the court of Magistrate Civil Lines Mudassar Iqbal Shah rejected the bail application.

Syed Akhtar’s health deteriorated to a critical condition, prompting authorities to transfer him from Adiala Jail to RIC in the hope of medical intervention. Unfortunately, despite medical attention Syed Akhtar could not recover and succumbed to his ailments.

Having spent three years in Adiala Jail while awaiting trial, Syed Akhtar’s case highlights the complexities of the legal system. The bail application, filed on February 26, was a last resort for his family to secure his release.
