KARACHI: Due to ad-hocism, three of Sindh’s education boards have failed to announce the results of intermediate part-I examinations for 10 months now.

Frequent changes of board chairmen and appointments of commissioners as chairmen led to the postponement of results.  The results of the inter-part-I examinations have never been postponed for this long in the province’s history.

According to the details, the school boards of Hyderabad, Nawabshah, and Mirpurkhas have not yet released the inter-part-I exam results for the science, arts, and commerce groups. It has raised serious concerns about whether the interannual exams can be held in the upcoming 1.5 months.

Moreover, the chief minister of the province and the universities & boards department of the provincial government seem to have no idea about the delay in the announcement of the exam results and about the distress of the students.

Nawabshah education board chairman Dr Muhammad Farooq said: “The caretaker CM appointed the Nawabshah commissioner as the board chairman during his tenure. The process of checking copies and preparing results was stopped, which has been resumed now. We hope to release the results within 10 days.”

As for the Hyderabad board, the Hyderabad commissioner was appointed as the board chairman, while former minister Ismail Rahoo had already appointed Prof Ali Ahmed Brohi of the Department of Sociology of the Sindh University on deputation against the rules and the Supreme Court’s orders.

For the last three weeks, the Mirpurkhas education board has been operating without a chairman. In defiance of the SC’s directives and the regulations, Rahoo had appointed Zulfiqar Shah as chairman while serving as a delegation from Islamabad.

On the grounds of deputation, the Sindh High Court dismissed them, but since then, not only has the preparation of the test results ceased, but the board’s daily operations have suffered greatly. The results of the inter-part-I exams were affected by the appointment of the Karachi commissioner as chairman of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi.
