ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) heard the appeals of the PTI founder Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi against their conviction in the cipher case today (Wednesday).

A division bench, headed by Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Amir Farooq and Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb heard the cipher case appeals as it could not conduct any proceedings on Tuesday.

IHC has sought reports from the Islamabad advocate general regarding the appointment of state lawyers and from the jail authorities regarding the visits of those lawyers to Adiala jail. Imran Khan and Qureshi have challenged their convictions and their 10-year sentence each in the case.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s lawyer Salman Safdar gave arguments in the hearing.

Important revelation during the cipher case hearing

According to the details, a copy of the cipher sent by the Foreign Office to nine different offices was not sent back to the Foreign Ministry by any of the offices.

According to the document available with the prosecution, Neither office returned a copy of the cipher. After 17 months when the FIR was registered against Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood, copies of the cipher were returned to the Foreign Office.

During the hearing, the Islamabad High Court asked that if an FIR was filed after the inquiry against the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister, was there an inquiry against the Army Chief?

Barrister Salman Safdar argued that no documents were shown by the prosecution in this regard.
