ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) initially approved a rise in power tariff by Rs 5 per unit in the price of electricity on Thursday.
The request to increase the price of electricity by 5 rupees per unit was heard under the chairmanship of Nepra Chairman Waseem Mukhtar. The increase was sought in the context of the monthly fuel price adjustment in February.
According to the officials of the Power Division, the government has to collect 1.2 trillion from the electricity consumers, from September 7 to March 25, electricity theft worth 11 billion 60 crore rupees has been stopped.

According to the details, power was not generated from the Sahiwal plant with imported coal. More than three billion arrears have been demanded as per adjustment as last month’s fuel price was 7 rupees 6 paise. This month’s increase for February was demanded at Rs4.99 per unit.
Both the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) and the Ministry are not listening to Nepra, Nepra officials said. If compared between October and February, production in February was less than October, from local coal. The production of electricity from local coal has decreased by 36% due to which the capitation payments increased, and 3% RLNG from solar reference is more than 100% reference.
