LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has approved the ban on the use of plastic bags across the province.

According the to the reports, ban on the use of plastic bags will come into effect from June 5, it was decided in a meeting chaired by Punjab senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.

Provincial Minister Aurangzeb has said that the International Earth Day will be celebrated on April 22; the day will mark the beginning of the “Say No to Plastic” campaign across Punjab.

Maryam Marriyum has revealed that CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz approved ban on the plastic bags, while now complete restriction will be imposed on the production, transportation and use of plastics bags.

She urged the public not to use plastic bags to prevent themselves from cancer, appealing to them to use cloth and paper bags instead.

Senior provincial minister asked all shopkeepers to support the Punjab government’s campaign against the use of plastic bags. It was decided during the meeting that authorities would ensure strict enforcement of the ban on plastic bags in Punjab.

Lectures and workshops will be conducted in educational institutions to raise awareness about the health hazards posed by plastic bags.
