Three candidates were finalized by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Wednesday for the prestigious post of Governor of Punjab. Leading contenders for the desired position, according to party insiders, are seasoned politicians Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood, Qamar Zaman Kaira, and Nadeem Afzal Chan.

But Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood comes out as the party’s leadership’s primary priority. According to sources, Mehmood’s candidacy has received recognition from other political parties, such as Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), in addition to the PPP’s endorsement.
The statement follows the joint release by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, and former President Asif Ali Zardari of a power-sharing formula for government formation and power-sharing. The three of them called a news conference at Islamabad’s iconic Zardari House to reveal their cooperative strategy for national leadership.

Shehbaz Sharif’s candidacy for prime minister was reaffirmed by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during the press briefing, indicating his return to the highest position of executive authority. He also revealed Asif Ali Zardari’s nomination as the PPP and PML-N’s joint presidential candidate, signifying a united front.
