ISLAMABAD – The government of Pakistan has taken decisive action to address the malicious social media campaigns targeting Election Commission officials by forming a high-level Joint Investigation Team (JIT). Comprising officers from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB), the JIT has been tasked with thoroughly investigating the slanderous activities and bringing those responsible to justice.
The initiative comes in response to a disturbing trend where activists of a prominent political party launched hate campaigns against government officials, including the sharing of personal information such as pictures and addresses of election watchdog personnel on social media platforms.
Expressing grave concerns over the spread of misinformation and attempts to manipulate public opinion, the interim government underscored its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring fair and transparent polls.
Led by Kakar-led government, the interim administration emphasized that such malicious campaigns pose a serious threat to the democratic process and undermine the principles of transparency and accountability.
The JIT has been given a comprehensive mandate to investigate various aspects of the nefarious activities, including the dissemination of propaganda on online platforms, the production of counterfeit ballot papers, and efforts to influence public sentiment.
Furthermore, government officials affirmed that any attempts to intimidate or influence government officers through malicious campaigns would not be tolerated. Swift and decisive action will be taken against those found responsible, they assured.
