Sunni Ittehad Council candidate backed by PTI Babar Saleem Swati was elected as Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in a session presided over by the outgoing Speaker Mushtaq Ghani on Thursday.
PTI-backed candidate Babar Saleem Swati, who emerged victorious from the KP-37 Mansehra seat, secured 89 votes while PPP’s Ehsanullah Miankhel secured 17 votes.
Outgoing speaker Mushtaq Ghani administered the oath of Babar Swati.

Whereas, PTI woman member from Chitral Surayya Bibi, is contesting for the deputy speaker office. The newly elected speaker KP assembly will preside over the deputy speaker elections.
