The newly-elected President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has decided not to take his salary, President House media wing said in a press release on Tuesday.
President Zardari’s decision came in view of the prevailing economic challenges faced by the country.

According to the statement, the purpose of the President’s decision is to encourage prudent financial management in the country. The President considered it essential not to burden the national exchequer and preferred to forgo his salary, it added.

Asif Ali Zardari won the second term as president defeating PTI-backed SIC candidate Mahmood Khan Achakzai with a resounding majority.
Zardari received 411 electoral votes while his opponent Mahmood Khan Achakzai managed to get 181 votes.
