Lahore: In a concerning revelation, it has been uncovered that dead chicken meat is being utilized in food products, particularly Shawarma, across Lahore.
Punjab Food Authority Director General Muhammad Asim Javed disclosed that 80 kilograms of expired meat were confiscated from a market in Lahore during recent operations conducted over the last two days.
Speaking at a private news channel program, Muhammad Asim Javed highlighted that an additional 2500 kilograms of expired meat were seized on Sunday in a joint operation between the Punjab Food Authority and Food Department from a prominent meat market near Mughulpura.
The director general emphasized the severity of the issue in Lahore, indicating that both dead animal meat and meat reaching its full expiration date were confiscated. He recounted that during the preceding Ramadan, the Punjab Food Authority intercepted and confiscated 1000 kilograms of beef derived from deceased animals.
Muhammad Asim Javed underscored the proactive measures taken by the Punjab Food Authority, citing 1800 raids conducted over the past two months resulting in the seizure of approximately 20,000 kilograms of expired or deceased chicken meat. Additionally, he noted that within the last two and a half months, a staggering 70,000 kilograms of expired or dead animal meat had been seized.

The Director General reiterated the commitment of meat safety teams, comprising veterinary doctors and food safety officers, to conduct regular operations and surveys in markets to ensure the provision of hygienic meat to citizens.
