PESHAWAR: Zartaj Gul, a former state minister and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was granted protective bail by the Peshawar High Court late on Wednesday night.
Gul was arrested in August of last year and is accused of corruption.

Upon considering Gul’s request for protective bail, Chief Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan ordered the police not to detain her.
The PTI leader was told by the court to turn in surety bonds on Thursday.
Zartaj Gul had earlier refused to leave the courtroom because he was afraid he would be arrested.
She expressed her heartfelt regret for the violent riots that broke out on May 9 following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder’s arrest.

“I can’t say whether I am contesting the election or a war,” the PTI leader said in a statement to the media following her bail plea filing. She also expressed uncertainty about the upcoming elections.
