The Duke of York, Prince Andrew, is under increased scrutiny for his connections to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This is because new court records were released as part of a lawsuit involving Epstein’s former partner, Ghislaine Maxwell.
The approximately 900 pages of documents list Prince Andrew as one of the more than 170 individuals who knew Epstein in some capacity. In 2009, Epstein entered a guilty plea for soliciting a minor for sex work, and in 2019, he committed suicide in jail while awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking.

Prince Andrew has strongly denied any sexual abuse, although allegations of it are included in the court documents.
Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s accusers, says that in 2001, when she was seventeen years old, she was coerced into having sex with the prince in London. In 2022, she sued him civilly and the case was settled.

After the financier’s conviction in 2010, Prince Andrew acknowledged that he had stayed at Epstein’s home. However, he said that this had been an error and that he did not regret their friendship as a whole. In addition, he claimed he had never met Giuffre and that he had no memory of the picture in which he is seen putting his arm around her waist.
