ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Senator Talha Mahmood has abandoned Maulana Fazlur Rehman and announced joining the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

During a press conference along with PPP leaders Nayar Bukhari, Faisal Kareem Kundi, and others, he said that he was invited to join the PPP during a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari a week ago.

“I publicly announce my joining with Pakistan Peoples Party. I’ve never been affiliated with any political party except JUI-F. Icontested in 2006 on the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam ticket and have remained with them ever since,” he said.

Senator Talha Mahmood emphasized Pakistan’s economic troubles and political realities, emphasizing the need for a collective effort to solve the issues. “My life is an open book to you all. I have endeavored to lead a transparent and upright life,” he added.

“In eighteen years, I never took a salary or any perks from the Government of Pakistan. I have contributed to Pakistan’s betterment. Pakistan needs individuals who can work at the national level. In the current circumstances, no party appears better than the PPP. I have joined the PPP, and they have honored me,” he added.

Senator Talha Mahmood (Hilal-i-Imtiaz) remained in the Senate from March 12, 2006, to March 12, 2024. He served as Federal Minister of Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony during Shehbaz Sharif’s first government after the death of Mufti Abdul Shakoor on April 15, 2023.

Senator Talha also served as federal minister of States & Frontier Regions in 2022.
