LAHORE: In the Senate election scheduled to be held on April 2, seven senators were elected unopposed on Senate general seats from Punjab on Wednesday.
In the Senate election from Punjab, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PML-N) Pervez Rasheed, Nasir Mehmood, Ahad Cheema, and Talal Chaudhry have been elected as senators unopposed, while Mohsin Naqvi of the ruling government alliance has also been elected as Senator.
Apart from this, Raja Nasir Abbas and Hamid Khan of the Sunni Ittehad Council have also been elected senators unopposed.
On the technocrat seat, Mustafa Ramday withdrew his nomination papers, while on the general seat, Shahzad Waseem, Mussadik Malik, Waleed Iqbal, and Umar Ijaz Cheema also withdrew their nomination papers for senate elections.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced that Senate elections would be held on April 2 to fill the 48 vacant seats. As many as 52 seats in the upper house of parliament will fall vacant after the expiration of the 6-year term of the incumbent Senators on Tuesday.
Polling would be held to elect members against seven general seats, two women, two seats for technocrats, including Ulema, and one seat for non-Muslims from Sindh and Punjab.
