KARACHI: A motorcycle-riding armed couple allegedly robbed a fruit vendor of cash and mobile phones.
In his complaint lodged at Gulbarg Police Station, the fruit seller has alleged that a man and a woman came to him under the guise of buying watermelons in the North Nazimabad area of Karachi.
According to a private news channel, the couple first reached his shop and bought watermelons worth Rs 680. He then gave him a bill of Rs 5,000 and demanded change, on which the fruit vendor took the bill and returned the remaining amount.
However, the fruit seller said the armed couple refused to buy the fruit, citing the rising price of watermelons, and took back their money.
The shopkeeper alleged that as the other customers left, the couple returned, pulled out guns, and robbed him of Rs 60,000 and two mobile phones.
At least 45 citizens of Karachi have been killed for resisting robberies so far in 2024, with the highest number of deaths of 20 in February, the report said.

In view of the increasing crime rate in Karachi, the Sindh government has appointed Imran Yaqub Minhas as the new chief of Karachi Police.
According to the notification, Imran Yaqub has been appointed in place of Khadim Hussain Rand. Rind has been asked to report to the Establishment Division.

The Karachi police had decided to mobilize the Shaheen Force in the metropolitan area on March 26 as dozens of civilians were killed while resisting robberies.
According to the details, District West Police has sent a 150-member team for a refresher course, while several teams of the Shaheen Force have been formed to deal with street crimes.
