ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has submitted the second inquiry report to the federal government regarding the attack on Chinese engineers in Shangla that killed five Chinese nationals and a Pakistani driver.
The report sent to the government revealed that the vehicle carrying Chinese engineers on March 26 lacked bullet and bomb-proofing. It has been added that the vehicles of Chinese engineers are not bomb-proof or bullet-proof.
CCTV cameras were installed in all the buses involved in the Chinese national convoy. The wreckage of the vehicle used by the suicide bomber has been recovered, and an aerial photograph of the blast site has also been recovered.
According to the report, Basham police station is about 6 km while Dasu Dam is 77 km away from the incident site. “The destroyed bus was 15 feet away from the other bus. A female engineer was also included among the dead Chinese nationals,” the report added.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed a joint committee to investigate the March 26 attack on Chinese engineers in the Bisham area of Shangla district. Police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) have submitted a comprehensive report to PM Shehbaz.
After an initial investigation, the Prime Minister ordered disciplinary action against five officers over negligence in the Shangla attack.
On March 26, a vehicle carrying five Chinese nationals to the Dasu Hydropower Project site was hit by a suicide bomb attack near Besham, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Five Chinese engineers and a driver were killed in the suicide attack.
