A body will investigate the May 9 incidents, which included attacks on military installations.
ISLAMABAD: A cabinet committee has been formed on the orders of Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar to identify the masterminds, plotters, facilitators, and executioners of the May 9, 2023 violent incidents.
The Cabinet Division has issued a notification to form the committee, which will be led by Caretaker Law Minister Ahmed Irfan Aslam. The body would investigate the incidents of May 9, 2023, including attacks on military installations, and it would have 14 days to submit its report.

It will also make recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future. It will examine the immediate and long-term consequences of the May 9 incidents.
According to the notification, the Ministry of Interior would provide the cabinet committee with secretariat support.
On September 20, 2023, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Anoosh Masood announced that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and all others named as suspects in the investigation into the May 9 riots had been charged with “criminal conspiracy.”

She had stated at a press conference in Lahore that nine additional sections pertaining to treason had been included in the challans for the cases of vandalism and violence that erupted following the deposed prime minister’s arrest in the infamous £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) UK settlement case on May 9, against all suspects, including Khan.
According to the investigation official, evidence of inciting mutiny and planning vandalism was discovered against the PTI chief.
“Section 120(B) [pertaining to punishment of criminal conspiracy] of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) has been added to all the cases related to the May 9 incidents,” Masood had said at the time.
