Landslide disrupts traffic on Neelum Valley Road

MUZAFFARABAD: The main Neelum Valley Road got blocked for all kinds of traffic near the town of Kel due to a huge landslide.

Heavy rains that have continued since last night have caused a landslide in Sheikh Bela village, bringing huge boulders apart from mounds of earth.

The recent event has increased worries about landslides, which have long been a worry at Kel Shaikh Bela in Neelum Valley.

Important ground links to the higher regions’ district headquarters have been severed by the blockade, exacerbating the sense of isolation experienced by both locals and visitors.

Warning

Isolated/moderate to heavy rainfall may generate flash floods in local nullahs/Streams of Dir, Swat, Chitral, Manshera, Kohistan, and Kashmir from 27th to 29th April. The possibility of landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan may affect the vulnerable locations during the period (27th to 29th April). Windstorms/hailstorms and lightning may affect human lives, standing crops, and loose structures like electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels etc during the period.

Possible Impacts and advises:

• Isolated/moderate to heavy rainfall may generate flash floods in local nullahs/Streams of Balochistan especially (Noushki, Pishin, Harnai, Zhob, Barkhan, Gwadar, Kech, and Awaran) on the 26th & 27th of April, while Dir, Swat, Chitral, Manshera, Kohistan and Kashmir on 27th and 28th April.
• The possibility of landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan may affect the vulnerable locations from 27th to 29th April.
• Windstorms/hailstorms and lightning may affect human lives, standing crops, loose structures like electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels, etc during the period.
• Farmers especially in wheat-harvested areas are advised to manage their crops keeping in view the weather conditions.
• Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary traveling particularly from 26h to 29th April.
• Temperatures are likely to drop during the wet spell.
