ISLAMABAD: Acting US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs John Bass arrived in Islamabad today for a significant two-day official visit.
In Pakistan, Under Secretary Bass will meet with senior Pakistani government officials to discuss a range of regional and bilateral issues and regional security matters as part of the U.S.-Pakistani partnership, the US Department of State said in a statement on Friday
This marks the first high-level visit by any U.S. high official from the State Department to Pakistan since the recent general elections and the establishment of the new government in Pakistan.

The visit of the US acting deputy secretary of state to Islamabad holds particular significance in the aftermath of the recent visit of the Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi to Pakistan.
Before he arrived in Islamabad, the US diplomat also visited Doha, Qatar, indicating the ongoing diplomatic dialogue between the two countries. During his visit, John Bass met with senior Qatari government officials and other diplomatic missions to discuss support for Afghanistan and shared security interests in the region.
